Electrical appliances should be checked for safety regularly. They often get damaged with age and become potentially dangerous.

Portable appliance testing (PAT) is normally carried out on a yearly basis. Often business are required to have their equiptment tested as part of their insurance. Letting agents sometimes require that landlords have any electrical items they supply PAT tested.
